Our History

A series of vignettes

These history vignettes draw on a range of sources including:

  • Minutes of library meetings from 1863 onwards, held in our archives
  • Early colonial newspapers, especially the Tarrangower Times
  • Books of local and Australian history in our library collection
  • Information from the Maldon Museum and Archives

We thank all our members and the wider community who have contributed, in a variety of ways, to the telling of the library’s history. We particularly thank those who researched, wrote, edited, created images, sorted our archives and managed the web pages.

If you have information to add to our history, we’d love to hear from you: maldonathenaeumlibrary@gmail.com
